Biography

Fiorella Corsi lives and works in Rome and holds a Degree in Education from the University of Rome. Her university studies were combined with the study of painting at Rome‘s Academy of Fine Arts under Giulio Turcato.
She debuted as a painter, taking part in several individual and group exhibitions.
In the 1990 she turned to sculpture, drawn by a need to develop a relationship with material and space. Her preferred materials are terracotta, iron and papier maché and her work ranges from etchings to painting and from sculpture installations. She has held high-profile exhibitions in prestigious public and private setting.

Since 2013 she works the glass mixed with terracotta raw, with predilection for recycled glass.                                                                                                                                           December 2013 wins the International Murano Award, for the category LUME assigned by the International Abate Zanetti School of Glass Design, based in Venice.

July 2011 In Fabula is a project of contemporary art in historical garden setting. It has been conceived for and set in the Historic Garzoni Garden, an amazing baroque landscape architecture in Collodi (Tuscany), under the patronage and the support of National Carlo Collodi Foundation.
For the Contemporary Art Day, 8 October 2011 she was invited to participate both by the André Gallery, where she showed a new version of the exhibition In Fabula and by the Archaeological Department of the province Salerno and Avellino, in whose gardens arranged an installation  In One of the Possible Worlds.
Corsi returned to painting and October 2011, in the André Gallery –  Rome, where she exhibited a series of large scale works entitled Cosmographies (water based paint).
In 2009 the artist completed a bas relief in terracotta ( cm700 x cm700), dedicated to the Great Mother, for Catania City Council and for Antonio Presti, as part of the Fiumara – Art Project. The work is placed permanently in the City’s new contemporary art space.
Sand Page (h cm 330) is a totem to memory composed of a stack of pages in terracotta supported by iron. This sculpture gave its name to the event.
The exhibition was organized by the Culture  Department of Province of Rome in collaboration with Turin World Book Capital and ran from December 2006 to January 2007 In the prestigious Vittoriano Complex , Rome.
In December 2006 Between Heaven and Earth – Language and Writing was hosted by  Central National Library, Rome. The work is composed of a series of five installations in terracotta, iron, lead, and textile. Each contained an invitation to the public to leave a testimony in words or images to be conserved for future presentations.
In July 2005 her sculpture Minaret (h cm 320) in terracotta and wood featured in Mediterranea , Intercontinental Festival of Literature  and the Art, held in the Forte Sangallo, Nettuno (Rome).
In October 2003, on the joint invitation of the Einaudi bookshop and Rome City Council she presented an installation on the theme of writing with works in terracotta arrayed in various setting in Palazzo Medici Clarelli, Roma. The same exhibition was repeated on the occasion of the “With Night”. An entry on the work appears in the 2004 edition of Encyclopedia of Art, published by Zanichelli.
2001 she held a solo exhibition of works in terracotta and iron on the theme of the myth of Gaia held at the Cuba D’Oro Gallery, Rome.
In 2000 the presented an installation The Nose at the Parco di Collodi  Museum. The work is in terracotta, wire and  papier  maché covering an large area and is inspired by the character of Pinocchio. This exhibition was presented for a second time ( December 2000 January 2001) on the invitation of Florence City Council with the support of UNICEF and was held at the Innocenti Museum on occasion of the Never See Before, an exhibition of works from the Uffizi repositories.
At the same time she took part in national and international collective exhibitions.

Biografia

Fiorella Corsi vive e lavora a Roma. Si è laureata in Pedagogia presso l’Università agli Studi di Roma con una tesi in Filosofia della Storia. Contemporaneamente ha frequentato i corsi liberi di pittura presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti. Tenuti da Giulio Turcato. Ha esordito come pittrice, partecipando a mostre personali e collettive.
Negli anni novanta comincia ad operare nella scultura, per un bisogno fisico con la materia e lo spazio. Gli elementi prediletti sono la terracotta, il ferro, la cartapesta.
La sua attività va dall’incisione alla pittura, dalla scultura all’installazione.
Noti sono gli allestimenti che ha realizzato per ambienti pubblici e privati.

Esposizioni recenti di maggiore rilievo:
2015/ 2017- L’artista è impegnata nella  realizzazione di opere grafiche di grandi dimensioni e nella pittura ad acqua su carta. Il tema prediletto è il nostro pianeta nel suo drammatico rapporto con l’Uomo.
Dicembre 2013 / Gennaio 2014 –  Vince il “Premio Internazionale Murano”, indetto dalla Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti, per la sezione LUME.  L’anno successivo frequenta la Scuola del Vetro con i migliori Maestri ed inizia a sperimentare il nuovo materiale con la terracotta.
Dicembre 2012 – Gennaio 2013 Mille e una Cenerentola, sculture esposte nella Biblioteca Centrale Nazionale di Roma.
Luglio 2011 – Febbraio 2012 In Fabula, sculture e installazioni, per il Giardino di Villa Garzoni, su invito della Fondazione Collodi.
Ottobre 2011 – per la Giornata del Contemporaneo: Giardino della Soprintendenza Archeologica di Salerno, installazione: “In uno dei mondi possibili” e Galleria André – Roma “In Fabula”.
Ottobre 2010 – Galleria André (Roma) ”Cosmografie”.
Dal 2008 al 2009 ha realizzato nel Comune di Catania, opera permanente per il nuovo spazio destinato all’Arte Contemporanea, su progetto di Antonio Presti / “Fiumara – Arte, ”Altare Votivo”, bassorilievo in terracotta di 49 mq (cm 700 x 650 ), dedicato alla Grande Madre.
Dicembre 2006 Gennaio 2007 – Complesso Monumentale del Vittoriano (Roma),  Pagine di Sabbia per l’Assessorato alla Cultura della Provincia di Roma, in collaborazione con Torino Capitale Mondiale del Libro con Roma.
Luglio del 2005 – Forte del Sangallo di Nettuno, in occasione di Mediterranea – Festival, Intercontinentale della Letteratura e delle Arti, Minareto di Terra (h. cm.320). Dicembre 2005 – Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma Tra Cielo e Terra – Linguaggi e Scritture.
Ottobre del 2004 – sulla nuova edizione dell’Enciclopedia dell’Arte, edita da Zanichelli,  è comparsa una voce dedicata al suo lavoro.
Settembre 2004 –  La Scrittura del Vento, Comune di Roma, Palazzo Medici – Clarelli, Libreria Einaudi e Via Giulia.
Ottobre 2002 – Il corpo di Gea, Galleria la Cuba D’oro (Roma).
Anno 2000 – presso il Museo-Laboratorio del Parco di Collodi (Pistoia)  l’installazione Il Naso (in terracotta, rete metallica e cartapesta), ispirata al personaggio di Pinocchio, ha occupato una superficie di 350 mq. La stessa mostra, promossa dall’UNICEF, dal 20 Dicembre 2001 al 6 Gennaio 2002 – è stata ospitata dal Comune di Firenze, presso il Museo degli Innocenti,  nel salone del   Brunelleschi, in occasione della manifestazione de’ I Mai Visti, capolavori presentati al pubblico, per la prima volta, dai depositi degli Uffizi.
